- Character (bearing His name as His people – see Numbers 6:27) “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”
- Actions (claiming to speak for God but misrepresenting Him)
- Worship (using His name flippantly, falsely, or manipulatively)
Examples of Taking His Name in Vain Today
- False prophecy in the Lord’s name (Jer. 14:14) And the LORD said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.
- Invoking God’s name for selfish ambition
- Living in sin while claiming to be “Christian”
- Manipulating others by saying “God told me…”
