God as Creator and Holy King
The Bible begins by presenting God as the Creator of everything and the One who rules over all. He is not just a slightly bigger version of us; He is eternal, all‑powerful, and completely in charge.
Look up these verses:
- Genesis 1:1 – God is the Creator.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” - Isaiah 43:15–16 – He is the Holy One and King who makes a way.
“I am the Lord, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King. Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea And a path through the mighty waters.”
God’s holiness means He is morally perfect and utterly set apart from sin. His kingship means your life now belongs to Someone wise, good, and strong enough to lead you.
God Is Love
The same Bible that calls God holy also says very simply that “God is love.” That does not mean love is just one of His moods; it means loving is essential to who He is.
Look up these verses:
- 1 John 4:8 – God is love.
“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (NKJV) - John 3:16 – God’s love shown in Jesus.
You will recognize this one: it says that God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)
God’s love is not abstract. It moved Him to send His Son into a world that did not love Him back, so that people like you and me could be forgiven and brought close. When you doubt God’s feelings toward you, look at what He has already done at the cross.
One God, Three Persons
Christians confess that there is one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three distinct Persons, one divine Being. This is called the Trinity. You will never fully “solve” this mystery, but Scripture clearly points to it.
Look up these verses:
- Matthew 28:19 – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit named together.
Jesus commands baptism “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” - 2 Corinthians 13:14 – A Trinitarian blessing.
This verse speaks of “the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit” being with believers.
The Father plans and sends, the Son comes and saves, the Spirit applies that salvation to you and lives in you. The more you see Father, Son, and Spirit working together, the more you realize your salvation is entirely God’s idea and God’s work.
Why knowing God’s character changes you
Doctrine is not meant to stay on a shelf; it shapes how you live and how you see everything.
- Because God is Creator and King, you can trust His authority even when you do not understand everything.
- Because God is holy, you will learn to take sin seriously—not to earn His love, but because you belong to Him.
- Because God is love, you can run to Him with your fears and failures instead of hiding from Him.
- Because God is Trinity—Father, Son, and Spirit—you are invited into a relationship with a God who has always existed in perfect love and fellowship.
As one discipleship writer puts it, getting to know God’s character gives you a “solid foundation” because God does not change, even when your circumstances or emotions do. That stability is part of how your faith grows strong over time.
One simple rhythm to start this week
Here is a practical way to let these truths sink in over the next few days.
- Read and reflect on three short passages about who God is.
Each day, look up one of these in NKJV and read it slowly:- Day 1: Isaiah 43:15–16 (God as Holy Creator and King)
- Day 2: John 3:16 (God’s love shown in giving His Son)
- Day 3: 1 John 4:7–8 (love is from God; God is love)
After reading, answer in a notebook: “What does this show me about what God is like?” and “How does that encourage or challenge me today?”
- Pray back what you see about God.
Turn each attribute you see into a short, honest prayer: “God, You are holy… help me to respect You;” or “Father, You are love… help me believe Your love for me.” - Memorize one short verse about God’s character.
For example, memorize 1 John 4:8 in NKJV: “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” Carry it with you and repeat it during the day, letting it shape how you think about God and how you treat others.
